AIRSULIN IS INSULIN THAT CAN BE INHALED

Three Perceptions and Realities:

Perception 1:
Type 2 Diabetes is generally controlled with an oral agent and diet. (64th session of the ADA, Orlando 2004)
Reality:
Type 2 Diabetes cases represents 90% of all cases of diabetes. Of these 50% of the patients are inadequately controlled by only oral agents. This population is at significant risk.

Perception 2:
The lungs are not prepared, as a port of entry, for administration of medicines, because this is not their function and we don't know how constant administration of insulin will affect them in the future.
Reality:
The lungs, particularly in the alveolar field, are an ideal field of entry; perfect for certain medicines that contain an appropriate micro-molecule. The lungs are also an ideal place for rapid absorption.

Perception 3:
Insulin is the last recourse in the treatment of diabetes.
Reality:
Insulin is the best recourse in the treatment of diabetes.
